2014 Disney Trip

Who went:

  • Mark, Jeanne Ty
  • Matt, Stacy, Xander, Lena

Month of Trip: Early April
Where we stayed:  Animal Kingdom Lodge
Where we ate: Yachtsman at the Yacht Club, Cape May Cafe at Beach Club, Marrakesh at Moroco, Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom

Matt arrived at Coronado Springs about 2 hours before we landed and discovered that they did not have adjoining rooms for us.  He just asked them if there was anything they could do, and they automatically upgraded both families to Animal Kingdom Lodge (one of our favorite resorts).  Matt texted us the good news, including a picture at the lodge and a facebook check-in, but since Matt is such an accomplished tease we don’t believe him and we head to Coronado anyway.  Disney was good enough to give us a voucher for a taxi ride to Animal Kingdom Lodge.  We told Matt that his picture of the lodge would have worked better if he had included Xander so it didn’t look like a generic picture that he could have downloaded from Google.  We also told him that this is the result of his excessive teasing.  It was great news to be upgraded and we’ll put Matt in charge in the future.

Xander woke us up early every morning.  Either he quoted from “Frozen” that “the sky is awake so I’m awake”, or he came into the room saying “Happy Birthday, Nana”.   We’re not sure where that came from since Nana’s birthday is months away.

We spent a day at Typhoon Lagoon – had a great time.

Parks were more crowded than we’ve seen in a long time.  Disney is using a new entrance/key/charge/fastpass system involving RFID encoded wristbands for all resort guests.  They worked great and I got so used to using the band that I missed it when I went to buy something at the airpoirt on the way home.  Disney also introduced a new FastPass plus system that we couldn’t seem to figuire out.  We ended up with fastpasses that we didn’t need and we ended up not being able to do many attractions because of limited fastpass availability.  It was disappointing, but most likely due to our large party with a large age range. Next time we’ll be better prepared.

We learned that getting a fast pass for Fantasmic is a necessity.  Need to do that next time if we want to see that show.
